DETEC SIC Announces the Completion of the High Power Microwave Target Surrogate Materials Capability
The Directed Energy Test and Evaluation Capability (DETEC) Systems Integration Contractor (SIC)* has completed the High Power Microwave (HPM) Target Surrogate Materials (TSM) Capability. The HPM TSM Capability provides a database containing information about surrogate materials that may be substituted for energetic materials (explosive, flammable, or otherwise hazardous) used in HPM test target objects. Each surrogate material contained in the database has electric and magnetic properties similar to its hazardous counterpart so that it provides a similar response to HPM irradiation.
The HPM TSM Database is a web-based application that uses queries to search the database of material properties to find recommended surrogate materials to substitute for hazardous materials contained in target objects. The user may also query the database to find the hazardous components of target objects and to find which hazardous materials are permitted or prohibited at test ranges. The user may download a printable catalog of the materials included in the HPM TSM Database.
The HPM TSM Capability supports HPM testing by providing information about using surrogate materials that may allow testing to be performed in chambers where potentially volatile materials are not permitted. The HPM TSM Database provides useful information about using surrogate materials to support testing in scenarios where it is desired to inspect the target after an HPM engagement without the risk of a target that would otherwise have included volatile materials from being destroyed during the test.
The HPM TSM Capability was developed under subcontract by the Applied Sciences Operation of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC/ASO) located in Albuquerque, NM.
DETEC SIC is hosting the HPM TSM Database. The HPM TSM Database includes materials data that is For Official Use Only (FOUO). Distribution of FOUO information is authorized for U.S. Government agencies and their contractors. Access to the HPM TSM Database may be requested by completing the HPM TSM Capability registration process on the DETEC website TSM Database.
