DETEC LSI Announces the Completion of the HEL TREM Capability
The Directed Energy Test and Evaluation Capability (DETEC) Lead System Integrator (LSI) completed work on the High Energy Laser (HEL) Target Reflected Energy Measurement (TREM) Capability. The HEL TREM Capability was developed under subcontract by Scientific Applications and Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) of Cypress, CA. The HEL TREM Capability measures in-band laser radiation reflected off a stationary ground target used for testing a high energy laser weapon. These measurements support the development of software tools used to predict the collateral damage to non-target objects and personnel that may receive reflected laser light during an HEL test.
The HEL TREM Capability comprises 30 measurement units that can measure both continuous wave (1.080, 1.070, 1.064, and 1.315 um) and pulsed (1.0 – 1.1um) laser formats. The measurement units are autonomous with respect to sensors, power, memory, filters, and optical processing circuitry/logic and can be used at various pre-determined locations placed within 300 meters of the target. The HEL TREM Capability and auxiliary equipment including charging stations for all of the units, calibration check equipment, and an air conditioned work station for data analysis are housed in a transportable trailer.
Programs wishing to use the HEL TREM Capability should contact Mr. James Andersen, High Energy Laser System Test Facility (HELSTF) at (575) 679-5123 or James.Andersen@smdchl.smdc.army.mil.
